What is Random Seeding of Panels?
The "Random Seeding" option allows you to create random "sub-samples" of your panel. This is how it works :
- Every Panel member is assigned a Number between 1-100
- This assigned number is Purely Random
- When sending out Surveys/Invitations, you can specify the range of random seed values - For example, to randomly send out a survey to 30% of your panel members, you can choose to send out the survey to all users who's random seed is between 1-30
- Furthermore, you can also use the same mechanism to do "Split Ballot Testing" - For example, if you wanted to send out one version of a survey to half the sample and another version to the other half - you can do that using Random Seeding
What is Split Ballot Testing and how can I use my panel to do experiments?
Split Ballot Testing is when you divide your sample (randomly) into two or more sub-samples and perform an experiment. The experiment could be different versions of a survey, or different questions (within a survey.) The goal is to see if any differences exist between the versions of the survey or how users behave differently.
With the Random Seeding feature of the Panel, every panel member has a unique random number (Seed) between 1-100. You can use this as a mechanism to randomly choose a sub-panel of respondents and show them one version of the survey.
But once you seed the panel with random numbers, you would then either 1) draw a random sample, or 2) split the panel in two (or more) parts for purposes of experimentation.
Does the system automatically "Seed" new panel members? Or do I have to re-seed them everytime?
The system will automatically seed panel members as they signup. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO RE-SEED THEM EVERYTIME.
